Institutional Strategy

Humboldt-Universität’s Institutional Strategy “Educating Enquiring Minds. Individuality – Openness – Guidance” is being funded through the Excellence Initiative since 1 November 2012.

With it, the university aims for structural reforms that are set to prepare Humboldt-Universität for the challenges it will face after the funding through the Excellence Initiative.

To achieve this, Humboldt-Universität specifically targets three main areas to secure a lasting place at the top of world-wide research. The promotion of top-level research and young researchers as well as a modernisation of the university’s governance and administration are therefore the foundation of HU’s Institutional Strategy.

Young researchers

In order to establish excellent research permanently, HU strives to promote young researchers. Humboldt-Universität has developed a phase model for this purpose that accompanies researchers from high school all the way to retirement and targets to help at the complicated transition points.

Governance

Governance

Top-level research and the promotion of young researchers need a governance and administration that works adequately for science and academia. It must give researchers the freedom to focus on the essential. HU's administration reform is based on a concept labeled “culture of enablement”.

Gender Equality

The Institutional Strategy’s funding lines touch the neuralgic points in the academic system in which women’s career paths are hindered. They support young female researchers at the transitions from graduation to their PhD and then into the PostDoc phase and offer financial aid in special situations (pregnancy, care work etc.).
