Information About the Online Application Process

Welcome to the application process for a Humboldt Research Track Scholarship. Please read the information on this page carefully before submitting your application.
Registration

To access the application form, you first need to register. You create an applicant profile when you register and then receive access to a password-protected section for applicants. Once registered, applicants can log in directly.

General information

You can interrupt the process of filling in the online application form at any time. Please save the data you have entered before.

Please enter all information completely and truthfully. Applicants who enter false information will be excluded from the rest of the selection process.

All information in the application portal can be entered in German or English.

Data is entered and transmitted via secure internet connections to ensure that third parties cannot view your data. You can check and amend your data as you enter the information.

The fields marked with an exclamation mark (!) are mandatory fields.

You will need to upload the following documents in the application portal:

  • Curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages)
  • Certificate of your degree results

Additional documents can be uploaded in PDF or JPEG format. If you have more than one document for a category, please combine them into one file (max. 5 MB).

Academic qualifications

Your curriculum vitae should include information on your professional experience and your extracurricular activities (max. 2 pages).

Please list your academic qualifications, starting with your highest degree. You will need to upload digital copies of your certificates. If you have not yet completed your degree, please include an overview of your grades with a preliminary overall grade and proof of your expected degree (e.g. confirmation from the examination office that you have submitted your master’s thesis).

Please include a certified translation of any documents that are not written in German or English. If your application is successful you will be asked to present the originals of these documents. 

If you have already published any articles, you have the option of uploading them.

Research project

The Humboldt Research Track Scholarship is designed to help students prepare their thesis, so we do not expect a final description of the project. Please submit a general outline of your proposal (max. 2,250 characters). The program is not restricted to specific topics. The main purpose of the project description is to provide the interdisciplinary selection board that will make the final decision on your application with information about the key objectives of your proposal.

Please name your prospective mentor at Humboldt-Universität and specify the period for which you would like to receive the scholarship. If you would like to do your PhD at Humbold Universität that person can be your supervisor in your doctoral phase. But that ist not necessary. Your mentor does not necessarily have to supervise your PhD thesis

References

The application documents include a letter of recommendation from your Master’s thesis supervisor or one of the lecturers from your Master’s degree programme, as well as an expert review by your prospective mentor. You should submit your PhD outline to your mentor for review.

The letter of recommendation and expert review may not be written by the same person.

Please enter your referees’ names and institutes in the online form and send them the relevant form for completion.

Letters of recommendation and expert reviews should be signed by the person who wrote them and sent directly to the address given below. The subject line of the letter must include the name of the funding line and the name of the applicant.

Sending your online application

You can check and, if necessary, amend the information you have entered at any time. Once you have entered all the information completely and correctly in the online form, please send us your application. You can no longer make any amendments once you have submitted your application! If we receive more than one application from you, we will only consider the last one received.

Participation in the evaluation of the Research Track Scholarship

Humboldt-Universität is obliged to evaluate the funding lines of the Excellence Initiative. With the submission of your application you agree to take part in surveys for these evaluations.
